We are remodeling the house and the family room will be set up for a
home
theatre (HDTV Plasma, surround sound system, etc...). I am leaning
towards
a multiple room DirecTV system, but I'm unsure what would be the best
DirecTV receiver(s) to use. Or should I be looking at Voom, or some
other
content provider instead?? Don't recommend looking at local cable
company (Charter), they have poor service.

Can anyone point me towards websites for reviews or forums where folks
are
talking about this??

Thanks,

Bill

DTV's site doesn't mention what receivers they provide for HDTV, but
googling "DTV HDTV receivers" shows units from Toshiba, RCA, Sony, Samsung,
Hughes, and others. That's why I posted my question about the receivers. I
know that there are numerous receivers out there, I just don't now anything
about them. I am hoping someone can point me to a site (or sites) where I
can readup on them.

Bill, the best DirecTV HD Receiver by far is the HD-DirecTV with
DVR(TIVO) which retails for $999.00.

This "would" be my choice if I could afford it right now, but I can't.

I called DirecTV's customer retention department and got a deal for a
$100 HDTV receiver with a one-year contract...includes install. They
pick the receiver but for the price that ain't bad.

Another option for me was to minimize my DirecTV account and add VOOM as
an ancillary service for HDTV. I'd keep DirecTV because I can't get all
my locals OTA digitally and VOOM is still missing some favs like SciFi
Channel.

I ended up going for the DirecTV upgrade. I did this mainly because I
use 2 SD-DirecTV with DVR receivers now. These babies have a 35 hour
recording capacity and are addicting. I'm not ready to give it up. Since
I can't afford the HD-DirecTIVO I will piggy back whatever standard HDTV
receiver that DirecTV gives me on top of my SD-DirecTIVO. ..

DirecTV provided me with the Samsung SIR-TS360, which does support OTA in
addition to local digital cable and satellite. The nice thing is that it
integrates my OTA channels with the satellite guide once I've done the
initial scanning.
