firsttime builder- no bios start up - help

Hi,

I have just carefully pieced together my new pc. And I think I have connected all the necessary cabling, and when i switch the power on, it flashes a quick graphic on screen, and then goes to a black screen with a flickering cursor which slowly flickers down the screen. No Bios screen.

I just have the essentials connected at the moment,

MSi P965 Platinum Mobo
Connect 3D X1950XT 256mb Gfx card
500w Northq powersupply
2 Gig Corsair DDR2 800 Ram

Can anyone please help.

MSI boards come with D-Brackets for diagnosis. There are 4 led lights. Green = ok. Red = failure. Look up the manual for the codes & explanations.

I have installed the usb d bracket, and all 4 lights are green,

i have no idea where to start, I am sure the processor is installed correctly, and the ram are in the coreectly coloured Dimm slots, I am sure 500w is enough for the X1950XT (the website recommends 45W on a fully loaded system), everything is brand new. and i took care that i touch the case before touching any components.

all i get is just a black screen with a flickering cursor.

Please list the full specs. I need to know.

According to the manual, 4 greens mean booting up os. I suggest

- disconnect all drives, power on
- try EACH stick of ram in EACH of the ram slots, power on
- try 2 sticks of ram in dimm 1 & 3 (green & orange away from you), power on
- swap both sticks of ram, power on
- try 2 sticks of ram in dimm 2 & 4 (green & orange away from you), power on
- swap both sticks of ram, power on

By now, you should have tried 12 combos of ram installs. If not, you missed some combos. Yep, some mobos are very picky about ram & their locations.

Post the ram model #.

I am getting no beeps from the mobo (not sure if it has a speaker)
The d brackets reports all green lights.

I removed my graphics card and installed it into my work pc, no probs,
So it must be a RAM issue.
I will try with my work pc standard DDR2 RAM this weekend.

I can only hope and pray.

Seeing the compatibility list, I think the ram should work. Try my suggestion.
