Called TimeWarner's sales department today and ask if they would be
offering HD-DVR boxes anytime soon. I was told "end of June" and given
the following details: The HD-DVR boxes will cost the same per month
as the existing HD cable boxes, the boxes will be HD enabled and will
be capable of recording HD content. The DVR service fee will be
$5.50/month.

Anyone want to buy a ReplayTV cheap :)

I've noticed that TWC deploys "new" stuff in the smaller markets to work out
the bugs before offering it in their larger east and west coast markets.
Honolulu is typically a good place to deploy new devices given the smaller
HD customer base.

San Antonio - TX

The only annoyance - skipping too fast to the digital channels from
analog, I get a constant popping sound out of the speakers. I mute the
converter and it still makes noise. Pause - No noise. Running the
channels 99+ slowly no pops.

This may be an easy question but Im not educated about this. Do DVR boxes work
like tivo? Do they record my favorite shows?

The Scientific Atlanta 8000HD box functions much like a TiVo or ReplayTV
box. The only feature it "lacks" is that it doesn't store or recognize your
viewing patterns to "suggest" different shows for you, and playback is only
possible if you are connected to the cable system, since it uses a dedicated
digital cable channel to playback on. In other words, can't take unplug the
box and take it to another TV to watch the recorded show, unless you have a
cable connection to that other TV. It can be set to record all episodes of
a series. The 8000HD provides PIP and image scaling in HD, which earlier
boxes didn't offer.

I don't believe 8000HD DVR function uses the cable head-end "video
on-demand" type central servers.

I was under the impression that the SA8000HD stored it's DVR content locally
on its encrypted internal hard disk drive and that instead it was the
encryption key management that required the connection to the cable system
in order to view what was on the disk.
