hey guys...
wondering if the stock coolers on the Athlon 64 3500+ and the X2 4600+ are the same. I'm guessing they're not, because they have the same maximum temp but the X2 has much higher dissipation, which should require a more powerful cooler. On the other hand, the 3500+ stock cooler usually handles the heat at less than full speed, at least for me. thanks.

i can't help noticing you're running a 3000+... you don't want my 3500+, do you? I've been good to it. Im not even trying to sell it, I'm at college and have no place to keep it. I'll mail it to you if you want.

I wish they had copper bases. My 4200+ def. has an aluminum base (although it still stays really cool). I guess if the cheaper aluminum one does the job, why should AMD throw in something better and more expensive?

Actually, my research has told me that the 89W X2 processors (AM2) come with the aluminium HSF. The 110W versions (socket 939) come with the heatpipe/copper HSF. When I contacted AMD, (after receiving my X2 4600 with aluminium HSF) they said that since the 89W processor doesn't run as hot, an aluminium heatsink suffices. If you have the aluminium heatsink and want to buy the heatpipe version, go here: http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/std/sku=dual_core_cpu_fan_heatpipe.html
