Unresponsive Processor

Hi all. I'm trying to install a new CPU (P4 3.0E Prescott 3.0GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket 478 RoHS) into my system, but it is unresponsive so far. When I start the machine, it just idles. No video, no beeps, nothing but the sound of the fans whirling. I thought by updating my BIOS (which I had to go through the 4th circle of hell to accomplish) it would solve the problem, but alas, it did not.

According to the CPU compatibility chart for my mobo (http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/lc/lc_proc.htm), it should work. Could there possibly be a problem with it being a ROHS version CPU? Can anyone give me a pointer as to what measures I might take to resolve this or should I return it for a replacement?

Thanks, -Glenn

Check your board Revision Number (Instructions are at the bottom of the Intel page you linked to). The revision number must fall into the range given in the right-hand column of the chart on that page:
C27498-406 or later
C27499-406 or later
C27500-406 or later
C28903-405 or later
C28906-405 or later
C28909-406 or later
C32156-405 or later
C31110-404 or later.
If your Board Revision doesn't fall into one of these ranges, a Prescott won't work regardless of the BIOS version you're using - in which case, you'll need either a different motherboard, or a Northwood P4.
