The Core 2 will give the best price/performance based on those choices, I can't suggest an Intel mobo since I have no recent axperience with them.

I would say that if gaming is your priority then the AMD 3600 and the X1950 are your best bet, if the video editing is your priority then the Core 2 and the 7600 are a better choice.

Also consider the E4300 instead of the E6300. This will save you a few dollars and there are very few cases where the E6300 will give you noticably better performance.

The E4300 can be easily over-clocked with very inexpensive ram.
The E6300 requires faster RAM to overclock.

Unfortunately, at todays prices here in Canada the E4300 is almost the same price as the E6300 ... :(

E4300 = 209.99
E6300 = 210.50

HEY INTEL..... WHATUP ????

There will be a price difference in a week or two I suspecet.
There is a $25-$30 price difference from Intel.

Its just that right now the E4300 is a flying off the shelf so retailers are making a buck or two.

The E4300 came out Sun/Mon and in many places was actually more than the 6300. But Tues/Wed it already started to drop to a little less.

In another week I suspect the E-tailers will stop charging as much of a surcharge.

Back to shahzads original question:

I was in the same boat last year with a very aging socketA-AGP platform :oops:

I had to decide what was the biggest factor in wanting to upgrade. I decided it wasnt so much the cpu as much as not having a pci-e slot.

When I came across a sale price for a opteron 148 @ 50% off ($110 canadian). I bought that with an inexpensive m-board and was able to reuse ram hd etc. I spent the remainder of my budget on a x1950xt gpu and the system is great for what I need. (the cpu is oc-ed to 2.6ghz)

I know its a 939 socket and has no future but I dont know how 'future proof' any of the current platforms will be into the next year or two.

I will probably be upgrading again mid next year and I expect there will be incredible buys on quad core platforms by then.

I guess everybody can put a different price on what they need for a computer and its hard for others to say yes or no to anything specific for your needs/wants.

There are a lot of options for everybody out there, keep looking for what you like.
