Hello

Epox 8HKA+ Only 4x AGP :(
1 gig DDR 333 mHz PC 2100
Radeon 9600 AGP 4x
Santa Cruz turtle beach sound card
80Gb ATA IDe HD
NEC FE990 VGA 19"crt (analog input)
DVD ROM
CD R/RW
15 in 1 card reader
P/S I don't know but I do know It's not enough.

When Oblivion came out I thought "uh-oh time to fork over some cash to newegg" . However I never bought Oblivion and thus stayed off the upgrade treadmill. I was given a copy of MS FSX (flightsim) last fall and have been aticipating Vanguard for a while. My daughters P5A based system just bit the dust. So with an anticipated refund from Uncle Sam I'm looking to upgrade.

I'm looking at:
2gig RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo
New PS
New graphics
New Mobo
At minimum

I felt that getting the Mobo with 4x AGP was an oversight . 8x came out soon after. I'm guessing that I need toget the best mobo with the minimum C2D E6300 or even the E4300 to save money for now.

I'm sure eventually I will get
Vista and a DX10 card (FSX was designed with these in mind) and upgrade my HD soon if not now. Not sure If I'll want SLI or Xfire. OCing is not necessarily a must due tol lack of knowledge mostly.

I was pleased to see Newegg is still going strong so I did some research and then filled a cart with this:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Conroe 1.86GHz LGA 775 Processor $187
http://www.newegg.com/product/Product.asp?item=N82E1681...

GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3 LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard $107
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E1681...

G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit $200
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E1682...

OCZ GameXStream OCZ600GXSSLI ATX12V 600W Power Supply $120
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E1681...

Foxconn FV-N79GM3D2-HP GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card $270
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E1681...

with shipping $897

This is about the most I want to spend right now. I think It'll set me up pretty well. Unless there's something I'm missing. Any money saving ideas would be greatly appreciated. Even though I'm way overdue for an upgrade I'm still a tightwad.

Can I still use my VGA with the newer cards? My Radeon 9600 came with a DVI to Analog adapter are these problematic?
Do I need to buy a new copy of windows? I have a retail version of XP sp1

I appreciate your time if you got this far reading this.

Thanks
Thomas

Very good choices, although I would go with the 4300 and overclock the crap out of it.

100th post! WOOT!

I would change the gfx card to a 1950xt, but other then that it looks great. You can use your current monitor, but there will be a slight loss of quality because the video signal has to be converted from digital to analog.

Looks kick-s.

A click on specs/pics shows that the video you chose come with:

2 x DVI to VGA/D-sub Adapters

No worry. I have yet to see one retail card with 2 dvi outputs & no adapters.
