I have a switch connected to my modem/router which connects directly to the internet, 2 computers connected to the modem, 2 computers through the switch.

Occasionally the computers on the switch lose their connection (the others dont), a message appears on 1 of the (switch) computers saying there is an IP conflict with another computer on the network.

The only way i can reconnect the switch connected computers is to switch the modem/router off and on again.

The switch and router/modem are both Netgear.

How can i stop these apparantly random disconnections? Thanks for any help!

In your router setup, under the lan part. Set your lease time to max.

If what blue says doesnt work, When the message comes up do an ipconfig on all computers and see if there is a conflict.
How many ports are on the router? If there are 4, which most routers have, why not just plug into them? Or do you occasionally have more than 4 computers?

another way to avoid address conflicts is to reserve addresses for each computer. go the the "LAN IP Setup" in your router settings and look for the Address Reservation table. Doing this will insure that the computers will never be assigned the same address.
