About that drop down start menu bit, the one that is divided up into three
sections one with the Programs and Settings selections then on top is an
area with special programs you can designate, but in the middle is a section
with the most recently run programs. Now question is how do I or even can I
clear out listed programs in that middle section?? I tried a hard reset and
it doesn't work. I am using a Dell X30.

You have to use a regeditor and navigate to:

HKCU\Software\microsoft\shell\taskswitch

Delete that key and then softrest before you do ANYTHING else. Don't even
minimize the regeditor.

If you need a regeditor, go here:

Wisbar Advanced 2 gives you an option to (not) show recent items on start
menu.
