Didn't realise this at the time but my motherboard can only run sli at 8x on each card not 16x. How much will this impact my performance in sli, will it be the same as say the vga chart results or is there a big performance decrease?

None.

You won't notice a difference in games, and in benchmarks.

There is a difference, but is minimal (very), is not even noticed.

You will never notice it. Probably 10 points in a 4000 point benchmark.

I don't think ANYTHING can use all the massive amounts of bandwith avaliable from a 16x PCIe slot.

Widely known, makes me wonder what the point of PCIe 2.0 is.

the most interesting thing about it is that you can configure how much power to give to the card in that port. I suppose that will eliminate the need for a 2 pci-e power connector in the 8800 series.

Yeah, buy I had "anything" in all caps. That means my point is more valid than the rest. God.

*cough*

You mean 1 Point in a 400 Point benchmark, right?

More power to the card through the slot.

It'll provide about 75W more.

Seems like a scam to get us to buy new mobos. It isn't that hard to hook up the external connectors, and a new PSU is cheaper that a new mobo if they're both high quality.

10 years ago, someone probably said "I'll never fill this massive 20gb hardrive up", now 20gb drives are nothing, the manufacturers will find a way to use it all. maybe they'll have physics processors on the card as well to use up more and god knows what else.

Reply to moogles

I wasn't saying that they eventually wouldn't use the bandwith. I don't think its going to happen for a while though.
After you use up PCIe, the next thing will probably be microfiber optic communication devices. 8)

I suppose i could ask the same regarding other kinds of avatars. Since it is considered unpolite to answer a question with another one, i will simply assume you are refering to mpilchfamily avatar, mine and some others as well. While not recognizing some of them isn´t a crime in itself, not recognizing all is quite revealing and to me, a little shocking. On the other hand i suppose you would´ve easily recognized Mr. Carmack.
There is no answer to your question other than "they are" or "green tastes like four".

If according to a source I read some time ago the actual pci-express 16x provides 75watts, then 75watts more would mean 150watts in total. Of course if that is true, then we should be getting rid of the 2nd power connector soon

Reply to slim142

Or in the case of the 8800GTX, one of the power connectors. :?

What's so bad about external power? This simply means more juice has to go through the mobo. I'd rather GPU demands go though inexpensive copper wire than a delicate sheet of silicon.

Cheers for the prompt replies guys, sorry if there was already a post about this but the forum search tool never seems to bring up anything when I use it. Probably gonna get another 7600 to speed games up.

Reply to spanner_razor

a single 7950GT KO kills 2 7600GT in SLI.

I dont recommend you buy another 7600gt if you have one already.

Reply to slim142

Yeah but can I pick that up for 90 pounds I think not, I already have one in the system and my next card will be either a 8800 gtx or whatever radeon has to offer. But I would like a little more performance as my next upgrade will be really big and I need to make this one last as I am strapped for cash.
