So I'm a bit of a newbie to building a computer from the ground up....

SETUP:
Power = Seasonic S12-600
MOBO = Gigabyte 965P-DQ6 (also had same issue with a 965P-DS3)
PROC. = Core 2 Duo- E6600
HDD = Western Digital Raptor- 1500ADFD
DVD = LG Super Multi- GSA H22L
VID. = BFG GeForc- 7800OC
RAM = 4GB DDR2 ( Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400PRO / 2x Kingston KVR800D2N5/1G)

PROBLEM
I've got my computer all setup and am at the stage of first install. But O/S will not install on my system. I get as far as *setup is starting windows* and the blue splash screen comes up telling me
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. ... ... Technical information ***STOP: 0x 0000007B (0x F789E528, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x 00000000)"

I have also tried installing Linux, with no success.

Solution?
Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know the solution? Am I missing something here?

Maybe you miss something on BIOS setting

The possibilities are virtually endless but you do have something immediately apparent.

Try removing two of the sticks of RAM of one brand, so either the Corsair or the Kingston and make sure your voltages are correct according to the manufacturers spec. The DS3 defaults at 1.8V and you have to manually increase by a small amount of +0.2V or +0.3V to run stock. Set timings to auto.

PC's dont like differing brands of RAM at the best of times, let alone when you're running them in dual channel and worse if they differ in stock voltage.

Hey, Ive done as you suggested by only running 2 sticks of ram (my Corsair ram is actually the TWIN2X2048-6400PRO, I was looking at the wrong page when i was posting :roll: )

I also increased the voltage in 0.05V increments up to 2.0V, and still getting the same error message when trying to install the O/S.

Should I be installing anything when it says to press F6 at the beginning of windows setup? (this is my first sata drive).

Happens to me all the time, usually because I didn't install the HDD drivers. Set your SATA to emulate IDE in the BIOS and that will fix it if you don't want to install the F6 drivers.

How do I set my SATA to emulate IDE in the bios?

Where it says "Onboard SATA/IDE ct5rl mode" i have it set to "IDE"

I would install drivers by floppy, but for some reason, my floppy drive doesnt seem to work (enabled in bios).

Sounds like you have the IDE setting correct, but if your floppy isn't working something more fundamental is wrong. I suggest you go back over everything - verify that things are plugged into the correct headers - for example, depending on your USB devices, its pretty easy to hook something to a USB header and be off by one pin. check everything thoroughly from the beginning.
