I am looking for a 16x9 Rear Projection HDTV and was wondering what all your
thoughts are on a new set in the 1400-1700 dollar range. I want something
that is at least 46 inch or bigger and would like something that will do
720p (or at least up or down convert 720p to either 1080i or 480p. I am
looking for something thru a major retailer unless u know of a better deal
online including shipping.
I am handicapped so i cannot go out and look at all the sets individually so
i need to leave it in your trustworthy hands. Here is a list of my top
necessities:
1. Must be at least 46 inches (Bigger the Better)
2. Must be under 1799 shipped (Lower the better)
3. From what I have read I should get one with a DVI input as I do have DVI
out on my HDTV cable Box.
4. I would like it to be able to display 720p somehow, either up or down
convert or natively.
5. I am very particular about picture quality; I have 2 older HDTV's a
Panasonic and a Toshiba and have been impressed with them but have seen
first hand that all HDTV's are not the same.
I really would like to get my information from you guys as you know more
then i ever will and your advice means allot more to me then some salesman
anyway.
I have looked around and it seems my choices are Sony, Toshiba, Mitsubishi,
Phillips, Panasonic and Hitachi. Did I forget anyone? I understand that
picture quality is for some a must see type of thing, But I am a Video
Essentials guy and like my TV's all calibrated about the same, no sharpness,
low contrast, high color. I am looking for the TV that is best at showing
what the director wanted us to see, not what someone who loves super high
contrast and high brightness and low color or have there back speakers set
on +10db to there liking) Nothing against you that like it YOUR WAY, but. I
do not believe that people should set there TV's or stereo to the way they
like them as opposed to the way the director wanted it to look. (I am anal,
wow)
Thanks in advance guys, I appreciate the info i have gotten from you all
over the years.

Hitachi 46W500's are selling here in Mass. for $1600 (Circuit City). I've
had one for about 6 mos. and love it. It has a DVI input (& 5 others) plus
a built-DVD player and the capacity for many useful changes of aspect.
Don't know about delivery wherever you are but the set's a jewel. BillR.

Go Hitachi man. After doing a lot of research I narrowed my choice down to
an Hitachi RPTV. I ended up getting the 46F500 last summer which at the
time was the best bang for the buck in Hitachi sets IMHO.
