I searched back a few pages and didn't see anything like this. I am also totally clueless about setting up wireless networks.

Running the modem to the wireless router provides a signal for the laptop, but when I try to connect the desktop via cable from the router the desktop doesn't connect. If I go straight from the modem to desktop it works, so the cable is good. Am I setting something up wrong? Any help is appreciated.

When you swap ports you need to reset your Nic Port. The easiest way without doing the dos cmd is to disable the nic port then enable it. It will get the new setting.

You may need to clone your MAC address of the working PC into the router. Most ISP when you setup your service they register the MAC address of the PC and modem. This way they block all others to prevent free-loaders.
