Just bought a new system, self build jobbie...

dunno if this is a problem or nothing to worry about.

The processor is a core 2 duo E6600 2.4GHz. At POST the processor is reported at E6600 1.60GHz (266x6) but in windows it is reported at 2.40GHz.

to me its like windows is reporting it as ok. but POST is showing it incorrectly? anyone know what this is about.

Is this the result of the speedstep technology... The processor downclocks itself when not in heavy use? I know I have the 6600 and It did this a couple of times. There is an option to turn it off in the bios...

I am not sure it should work in the bios but I do know that 1.6 Ghz is the frequency you get (@stock setting) when speedstep kicks in with a Conroe 6600.

Download CPU-Z or RMClock and monitor the throttle. My E6600 goes from x6 to x9. I remember seeing the SpeedStep speed post at bios on another PC.
