okay i know the pcie 8x doesnt cause that big a performance loss compared with 16x since the card doesnt even use that much bandwidth.
However My mobo only has 4x pci-e. Sooooo say i get a new dx10 card in a few months, what sorta performance loss would i see???

edit: Oh by the way, the rest of my system is: E6600, 2 gigs of ram, 250 gb HDD, 400 watt psu (for the moment, will upgrade if i get a new card)

IIRC crossfire on my board suffers a small loss in performance because of the 2nd slower PCI-E slot. SLI with hacked drivers suffered a big performance hit when compared to a SLI mobo with 2 PCI-E x16 slots.

I know that there is a Tom's article about this. Its a bit old, but it should probably at least steer you in the right direction... lemme see if I can find it.

If you have a low-end GFX card it wont hurt it much or at all.

but higher end cards you will see a big loss in performance.

if you stick something like the 8300Ultra/GT i doubt there be much a difference.

Wait does it only have four lanes each in SLi or does it have four lanes total :?: (Only four lanes total on a PCI-e slot board?? isn't that AGP?)

I just wanted to know for the future (a year or so into the future) :)

i wonder if anyone has a 8800gtx running on a 4x pci-e, then we'd know exactly how much of a loss there would be :p

Good to know, lucky, the HIS ICE Q Turbo 512MB version is going to be a few more weeks before we can get them in Australia.
