Im running my quad core at 3.2 Ghz - air cooled using a scythe ninja, and 4 more case fans.

Using my Nvidia 680i motherboard temp monitor it shows my CPU at 55 C when idle and when i run the Prime95 torture tests it can rise to 70 C

is this to high? or ok?

Use Core Temp and repost your temps.

57C idle and 70C load seem high, at least in the dual core area.
I have heard that the C2Q have a much higher Tjunction (the temp you never want to hit) that it's C2D bretheren (115C vs 85C) so it should be able to handle moderitly higher temps.

How high do you have the voltage?
Also, are you running the Q6600 or the QX6700?

They are high but not high enough to worry about. So your fine. C2Q has a T junction of 100C instead of 85 C of core 2 duo.

Update.

the NF680i MB and using Xp 64 has caused me all sorts of headaches.

finnaly after installing everything, including wondows, 5 times, in the correct order due to loads of XP64 software errors I have the follwing.

accordng to ntune, speed fan and core temp my system is idle at 3,2ghz, at 46 C

which, considering my Silverstone case tJo9, 4 fans and a ninja heatsink, can u get any better bar water? is what i expected.

im going to write a report on XP64, NF680i, a GTX 8800, quad core CPU, and 4GB of dominator for the forum because I have had a nightmare getting all of this to work!!!

£2.4k my render times are lower! haha

All kinds of BIOS issues with the quad core on these boards.
