Hi,

I have an computer with the following details:
Motherboard: Asrock P4VT8+ Asrock P4VT8+
Processor Intel Pentium 4, 3.2 GHz
Powersupply:Powertronics 500W
Memory: 1GB (2x512)

The problem is the following. The computer was working good and suddenly it started to freeze once in a while. I could start up in windows but after while (randomly) it freezed and i had to push the power button. It acted the same when i started it in failsafe mode without network.

I downloaded the Ultimate bood CD to do some testings. As soon as i push the computer a little it freezes. If i just let it startup and load the menu (UBCD) then it continues to run. I have run Memtest and CPU tests and it freezes after a minute and so.

The memory i have tried to run in different configurations and in different slots but without any luck. I have also tried anohter video card the same result there.

I have had a closer look at the motherboard to see if there is any visible damages but i cannot see anything.

What do you think? Is there anymore test i could do or is it 100% the motherboard.

Many thanks in advance...

More likely the issue is power supply failing or cpu overheating. Look for those things first.

try monitoring your temps or your voltages.

i have never heard of that power supply either although it may be good enough.

does the comp just jam, no mouse or keyboard responses at all?

The computer just jams it dosen´t respond to mouse or keyboard events.

Do you know about any good program where you can stress the computer and see the temp and voltage at the same time ?

Regards Magnus

Doesn't sound like you need to stress the components. Just go into the bios, there is usually (if Asrock uses the American Megatrends Bios like my present one does then it doe) a temp monitoring. Just leave it like that for 20 minutes. If it crashes tell us what temp it crashes at

just download speedfan or something similar to look at your idle temps as it seems to happen then as well.

www.speedfan.com should work.

also, have you tried a reinstall of windows.

how old is the comp, have you done a disk check and a defrag. try downloading ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com and see if clearing out some clutter does the trick. might not but it is best to rule out as many possibilities as possible.

Hi,

I leaved the computer on for a while, it was more than 30 minutes. I had to go to work. Now when i came back it was freezed again. The details below are from within the bios section where you can see the temperature and voltage.

CPU Temp : 50º
M/B Temp : 24º
CPU Fan 2860 RPM

VCORE 1.10
+3.30 3.26V
+5.00 4.70V
+12.00 12.28V

those voltagers don't look too good. my idle temp for my cpu right now is 32C, my 3.3V is 3.25, my 5V is 4.98 and my twelve is 11.98.

maybe it isn't that big a deal but i am not sure. still, something to look into more. it could just be you are in need of a better (note not higher voltage) PSU.

Thank you for all your help.

I think i tried to most but without any success. I decided to hand the computer in to a a technician.

Lets see what they say ...

That should be interesting...
Your cpu is running too hot at idle, but not enough to cause trouble.
Your supply voltages are out of spec (3%) and are all over the map.
Usually if a PowerSupply is off, all voltages are either high or low, not both.
