Howdy All,

Starting to take a big look at the epic powers with our upcoming
respec.

Wondering if anyone has seen good writesup.

For myself Im looking down the blaster epics. Information on them and
usage seems semi small. I plan on trying them on test, but hoped to
also experince everyone elses information.

*Sigh*. I haven't seen a good writeup on much of anything WRT CoH. I'm
not sure why, but everything seems to be reposts and copies of the same
usually fragmentary and badly-written snippets. Lots of stuff could be
clarified or extended with five minutes experimentation, searching or
just plain ratocination.

Doesn't this game have a literate guru? Seems like most do, but I've yet
to find the Killer Web Site with vetted and edited information that's
reasonably up to date. They all seem to be "here's some stuff from the
official forum [insert five or six random snips]" and "here's five things
I found about the Dark Blather power."

And having to follow/wade through/keep up with/search the official forums
takes as much time as playing the game itself. Not worth it, IMHO.

Huh.

I wish I had more time - my whole background is as writer, editor,
documentation specialist, etc. and when I've had time I've put together
some lauded sites and docs for game and hobby stuff.

But as a general note to all who are doing it so far: Just reposting
fragments from other places isn't reportage and isn't real useful. If
you're going to put up a site, and you're going to host CoH info, put a
few minutes AT LEAST into collecting all the info you can find on a topic
and then try to edit and combine it into something sort of coherent. ADD
something to the continuum, don't just spread the kitty litter around.

My thoughts exactly. I've said here before that there are no good
CoH web-sites, and by that I meant what you say above. With most
other games, even really old, obscure ones, you can find
definitive information somewhere. Not with this one. The
developers are keeping things secret, and doing a pretty good job
of it.

Sometimes it is, but I really am not good at using the search
feature.

This is why I don't more. I'm not going to make a good web site
either.

CoHVault has a few good articles and collections of info, for
example the defense and resistance numbers for all powers. They
aren't complete, but that's to be expected.

I don't think it's as much them keeping secrets as no one gathering up
all the pieces and writing a coherent account. I've noticed this all
along; it's in trying to get a good, solid handle on macros and binds
that I find nothing but scattered, often out of date, very incomplete
information.

Why? What drives me crazy here is that a very large amount of info is out
there, but no one site or resource seems to have more than a few
fragments of each data set.

Maybe we're all just too busy playing to write stuff up. :)

Probably :)

When I first started looking for data on CoH, I stumbled across a
Stratics site and my first thought was that I could stop looking: Back in
the days when I played Ultima Online, Stratics was pretty much the be all
and end all of UO information. Needless to say, I was more than a little
disappointed with the spartan information that's up there.

For now, I've got a collection of URLs for individual bits of info, like
a powers database, Warcry for tidbits (though warcry pollutes the CoH
info with a lot of non-CoH content, which is annoying) and a link to the
Dev Digest within the forums to see what the devs themselves are saying
or responding to.

Unfortunately, and especially with Issue 3 now, even the players manual
that came with the game (or the PDF downloadable from the site) is sadly
out of date - I read, though, that NCSoft has committed to making an
updated version of this "sometime soon, now"...
