AMD barcelona is gonna release soon(if there are no delays), just wonder, when will we see an official K8L benchmark? Core 2 duo's benchmark was revealed around this time last year, follow by that, Core 2 duo was launch in Q3 last year as well. it really makes me wonder, will AMD delay K8L again? or AMD already have an engineering sample right now, but was to shy(coz it wasnt impressive enough to dethrone C2D) to let us see?

More about : k8l benchmark

Who needs benchmarks? They said it will be 40% faster than the competition. So just take the best bench out there now and add 40% to it. They wouldn't possibly be at all dishonest about it, so we already know what the benchmarks are. No sense in wasting peoples time with actually having to go through the work of building a system, documenting... etc.

They are just helping us out.

but what they claim to what it will actually do will likely be a different story. Remember before Core 2 Duo came out , Intel were putting 5% on top of how much faster it was against the A64 , so it looked like the C2D was absolutely killing the A64. they were exaggerating the performance gains a fair bit.

Ooh, I can't wait to get a K8L and *wee* on it.
January 29, 2007 5:51:47 AM

The benchmarks will be interesting to see, even though I'm behind the curve and won't get one right away. I'll be interested in seeing how the next generation AM2+ processors work in AM2 boards, if the next version of hypertransport makes any difference. Those benchmarks will interest me.

So far, the only benchmarks I've seen online that really reflect my real world experience with any graphics card or CPU is Oblivion. That's the one game that makes my system seem as extinct as a dodo. That's why I'm going dual core, that and games like Alan Wake that won't run on single cores later this year.

I'm building two Athlon X2 3800+ systems this winter. I ordered an MSI barebones from Newegg for $89.99 which has the K9N6SGM-V Then, the next day, I saw a bundle at Fry's with an Athlon X2 3800+ 65watt processor and the exact same motherboard. So, this month, I get the barebones up and running with 2 gigs DDR2 800 Corsair XMS and a new Seagate 400 gig drive. In March, I just get another X2 3800+, another 2 gigs of Corsair XMS and replace the motherboard, processor and RAM in my signature system.

What I'll probably do is put low end 8 or 12 pipeline graphics cards in both systems and wait till the 8600, 8700 or similar R600 DX10 parts arrive this summer. As far as the performance between the Athlon X2 series and the Core 2 Duo, I don't see them as radically different. The same will probably be true of K8L vs. Penryn. I'm just glad we have competition in the CPU market.

20% clock-for-clock different is radical in CPU world, when the comparison doesn't have a clock speed advantage, and the comparison used to be the highest performing CPU. Some people actually justified getting Pentium 4 Northwood for their extra 5-10% faster performance. 20% in one generation means there are just more people who see it important.

We are now considering whether Barcelona can surpass Conroe or Penryn now
January 29, 2007 1:40:01 PM

Barcelona is the competitor of both Conroe~ and Penryn~. Expect higher clock speeds and lower temperatures from Penryn, not (much / any) more per-clock power.

@ the Op We all expected a bench in dec.when AMD said they would demonstrate Barcelona. They demonstrated something running task manager; aside from that its all speculation.

that computer behind the task manager is perhaps a 4x4 machine afterall. or worst, an intel quad core machine. 8O

HEY! You may be onto something.

Ronaldinho loses his chick
She has ********** on a beach with another guy
It gets on Youtube
It gets off Youtube
It gets off a significant portion of the male population of the world
AMD hires Ronaldinho
Intel does to AMD what the guy did to Ronaldinho's chick

Yeah!

Yea I saw that barebones kit as well. May want to switch out the power supply on it though depending on what they say the 8600's are going to need. If similar to a 7600gt power wise you may be ok. Oh and another thing, the 8600ultra is rumored to be out in March.

What I'll do for the time being is transfer the Cooler Master Real Power 450 with 22 amps on the 12 volt rail to the barebones and put the Apex 400 in the old P4. I'll just need to use a two molex to PCIe adaptor.

When I upgrade the P4 box to an X2 3800+ with the second MSI motherboard, I'll get a good 500 or so watt Seasonic, or maybe the Cooler Master green. I'll make sure it has enough amps on the 12 volt rail. If worse comes to worse, I can have a 7600GT in one and an 8600 in the other. Other than being low in amps, that Real Power 450 is one of the good psu's from Cooler Master.

March for the 8600 Ultra? I'm tempted to just spend $45 or so on a 4 pixel pipeline 7100 in the interim. I'll be interested in seeing what it's power requirements are. I think the 8800's are something like 29 amps on the 12 volt rail. R600 should be out soon too.

I'm still waiting for a response from MSI tech support about using an X1000 series or later ATI GPU. I don't mind going Nvidia, but I like AVIVO over Pure Cinema and most TES games have been optimized for ATI.

A friend is in the opposite situation. He was given an X200 board with a P4 630 to upgrade from his P4 2.4 and 9600, but he started playing WoW and he says that game's optimized for Nvidia. The joys of marketing, or is it a real difference when one game is optimized for either the green or the red team?

Gotta agree with ya on one thing is that baseball is not a game, it's an insomnia cure. As for American football being "over payed" (you're referring to the excessive payrolls, right?) how much would they have to pay you to have 340 lb. linebackers smash into you at full running speed with their titanium-hard helmets 19 weeks a year for 15 years?

...and I had a tv, but when I found out all I could receive was Você na TV, Academia de Estrelas and Os Batanetes, I kicked the screen in.
January 30, 2007 6:22:32 AM

Here is a strange idea for AMD... boost the FP performance over or very near the best of Itanium, in all FP benchmarks. Watch Intel wondering if they should kill their own Itanium by improving the FP of their x86 designs...

Just a thought that crossed my mind.

Well, I've been a judo practitioner since 5yo, and an mma fighter for 8 year now. So, I can tell you size doesn't matter...I'm at 84kg, and fought several times in open weight classes. The major different thing we feel when fighting a 100+ kg guy, is the weight when they are on top.

For Brian Ulracher we have Bas Rutten... Search for the story on the web.
And if they weren't sissies, the would been playing rugby. :)

I just found a site that posted a benchmark of a Barcelona test, but they immediately took the link down. It looked something like this:

thats 40%, right
