What if any is the difrence between E-IDE and IDE? I am purchasin a MOBO with 1 IDE conector can i run to Optical drives? I have 6 of SATA conctors can these be used instead of IDE? does the IDE cable have multiple conectors? I know this is basic stuff but it my last hurdle in ordering the parts for my first build. Please help

If you ave one PATA connection, that's what you connect the data cable to from the Optical drive, then you can run two ATA drive, Optical or hard drives. The SATA connectors will only work with SATA dirves.

Yes you can run 2 optical drives from 1 IDE interface. Most IDE cables have 2 connectors on them, the end one is the Master the connecter in the middle is the Secondry or "slave". If the motherboard you get has an IDE interface it will most likely come with a IDE cable with 2 connecters so you should have no probs running 2 IDE opticals drives.

And yes you can get SATA opticals drives too.

The "E" in E-IDE stands for Enhanced i think, practicly all modern hard drives and optical drives are useing this spec now - please correct me if i'm wrong anyone.

You have one PATA connector so you can connect 2 Optical drives or hard drives in any combination, one Master and one Slave. It looks like it's green and sits behind the PCI slots and in front of the SATA connections.

If you buying an Optical drive, get a PATA and if you're getting a hdd, get a SATA 3.0. Not sure if this is what you're asking.

So PATA and IDE are the same plug on the MOBO? thank you very much for looking at the pic for me. So it doesnt matter if my ATA drive is E-IDE or just plain IDE it will work with PATA conector on my MOBO?

For all practical purposes, E-IDE and IDE are the same and so it doesn't matter if your drive is ATA or E-IDE. For future reference, there are basically two type of Drive connections for the data cable, PATA (IDE) and SATA. There are two types of SATA 1.5 and 3.0, the 3.0 is newer and faster. The 3.0 is backwards capatible to 1.5 but you will likely have to change the jumper, a small piece of plastic on the back of the drive. Your mobo has SATA 3.0 connectors. Most optical drives are still PATA, the few SATA I've seen are way too expensive given you can get a good PATA DVD burner for $30. What hard drive(s) do you have now? Are you buying a new hdd? What will you be using the machine for? What's your budget for the Optical and hard drives?

No cords or connectors with come with the drives but will come with the mobo. You'll have no problems connecting any of the drives. I would definitely partition the hard drive so you can put your OS and programs on one and your data on the other. That way if you have reinstall the OS, you don't have to worry about your data. Or you could get a smaller hdd, 40GB for the OS and programs and a second SATA 3.0 for storage. How big the second drive should be will depend on what you're storing.

Your right about the case not being cheap, for that price I'd probably want it to do somethings my wife won't. For me the most important things with a case are they are easy to work with, reasonabl quitey, and don't light up like the Vegas strip. And this case would certainly meet those requirement. If you don't mind, what are the full specs on the machine?
