If you will be gaming then a regular video card will outperform the worstation card. But if you are doing 3D rendering like CAD or 3D studio max then you wll get better performacne from the workstation card. The real question here is what is more important to you. Games or Rendering? Though a good gaming card will run 3D studio max just fine. So it may be your better option.
Yeah. If your gonna play any games though, get a "good" gamer video card.
How much you gonna spend anyway? and if your only doen the 3D Studio then even a gamer board would work fine I believe.
I too would like to see a similar test between a few of the top cards in each type (gaming vs. workstation)
I have a Nvidia 8800GTX, and it seems to run Solidworks pretty well. We're about to buy another computer for one of our mechanical engineers and I would like to know how much better (if any) a 'workstation' card would be.
None of the tests on Toms shows a comparison across two chart families. If anyone knows of a test report anywere, please post it here.
