Has anyone try overclocking Gigabyte GA-945P-S3 with Intel Core 2 Duo E6300? It has almost similar bios settings with GA-965P-DS3 and seem to be a cheaper buy. There is one review on this mobo but it is paired with Intel Core 2 Duo E6700. Take a look :- http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-341-1.htm
I guess it will be intresting to see what this mobo can do with E6300. 8)

Anyone?

yes you can successfully OC the s3. I am currently running my e6300 at 2.7 and could easily go higher.

Wow, that's good news. Thats 385 MHz fsb! (x7)
Can u provide in detail ur bios settings and type of ram u are using to get such result. Are u using any xtra cooling. It can be usefull reference for everyone and myself.

Thanks pal. :D

sorry for the confusion. I just noticed you have the 945P and I have the 965P. The only difference between the two I believe is the memory. On the 945P I think you can only go as high as 667, but you may want to double check this. My current setup is Gigabyte 965P S3, 1GB G.SKill DDR2 667 (5400), c2d e6300, 7600GT, Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro, Seagate 320GB, Lite on DVD burner, floppy, 500W PSU. My BIOS settings are

Advanced BIOS:
disable CPUID Max 3
disable non-execute memory protection
disable C1E
disable TM2
disable E1ST
disable Virtualization Technology

PC Health Status:
disable smart fan control

M.I.T:
cpu clock ratio x7
cpu host frequency at 415 (update - so now at 2.9 GHz)
PCI Express frequency at 100 MHz
Disable CIA2
System memory multiplier at 2
DRAM Timing 5-5-5-15
DDR Overvoltage control +0.2v (2.0v) ***this setting could vary for you
FSB Overvoltage +0.2v (1.4v)
(G)MCH voltage +0.1v (1.55v)
CPU Voltage at 1.275v *****setting may vary

These settings come from Wiz in his thread about the $631 OC system he built. My temps are low using the cpu cooler I have (idle 44 and 41, under load 51 and 48) so I could go higher but I believe my memory is holding me back. still the increase from the originial 1.86 is enough to make me satisfied. I hope this helps you out and sorry for the confusion.

Anyway u are wright 945P does not officially support a DDR2-800 memory multiplier. But have sort of gotten around this by adding a 2.66x multiplier which gives DDR2-709 speed (when the FSB is set to normal) and 3.33x which gives DDR2-888. So you have the choice of either underclocking or overclocking your memory.

Another difference is in the audio outputs. Although both boards use the same Realtek ALC883 codec, only the P965 comes with full 7.1 channel output. The 945P only has stereo out. 945P does not allow CPU multiplier setting adjustments and RAID option.

i think 945P is good enough for building an Allendale (2MB cache) system, for someone who doesnt need extra function like RAID,build-in 7.1 s-card and dont want to upgrade his processor or ram to DDR2-800.

I was disappointed in the three audio ports too, but check the link to the 945P-DS3 Rev 2.0 I listed above. It will have six audio ports and looks to be a better all-around MB.

hello all,
i just wanted to put three 512DDR1 chips on my pc , but apparently they are read as (1048576)
which means that only two 512DDR1s are working , how can i get the third working to maximize my memory?
shall i set the overclock settings? , how can i configure it?

Thx
