what should be the settings in bios to take full advantage of the 3gb transfer rate? Right now I have enabled sata ports 0-3 native but am not sure if this is correct. I am using a gigabyte 965p s3 with bios version f7

Unless you have a crazy raid setup with a multitude of hard drives, youre going to be limited by the transfer speed of the hard drive, not by the interface. Dont worry about it. Current SATAII hard drives dont have internal transfer rates that even surpass EIDE.
