If your talking about channel 81 it is NOT part of the Direct TV HDTV
program
CBS (NYC and LA) is available only in certain markets. You can see the
list at the above URL.

You can get CBS HD (from NY or LA) and soon FOX as long as you live in
an OaO (owned and operated) CBS market. The OaO markets are most of the
major markets. I don't think Chicago is included in the list.
This is DirecTVs way of getting local HD into their subscribers without
breaking any local restrictions. As long as the market you receive your
CBS from is owned by the corporate entity, they don't care that you
receive a CBS broadcast from NY or LA.

Chicago's WBBM is an O&O station. Channel 80(CBSE) is automatically
available for those in the Chicago area but not in the Milwaukee or Rockford
Grade A or B area.

Any word on when FOX will be available to those markets?

No. But my guess would be sometime in the Fall or early Winter when Fox
changes over to HD.

I live in New York and I get both CBS NY and CBS LA HD. Mainly for the chopper
chases in LA but I get the High Def stations for both markets I pay directv
about 2 dollars a month extra. All you need is a waiver signed by cbs and
directv does that for you
End higher ticket prices! Go to local college games!

I have a waiver for the SD stations of the markets you mentioned.....and
they are NOT guaranteed that you will get them even if you do ask
DirecTV......you can only HOPE that your local station management will
allow it.

I was under the impression that I was getting CBS, channel 2-1 here in NY,
through my OTA. I did not buy my local channels from Directv. I get better
reception thru my OTA.

Well, that is great for you,but I do not live in the New York
area.......in order to get 'A' New York station I have to buy it from
DirecTV as I am approximately 2,884 air miles from that particular
DMA.OTA is good, but I think the theoretical limit is 160 miles?
