Ok so I got a AMD 64 3500+ NewCastle core @ 2.2ghz, my idle temps are usually 45C and my load temps are usually around 52C or more dunno exactly. Are these normal temps for the NewCastle core or have I installed the cooler wrong ? I duno..

Thanks for any advice anyone has to give me.

My case is an Antec Lanboy with 2 120mm fans installed, I think I have fairly good air flow, maybe not ?

Configuration is one end sucks, and one End blows. Or front sucks and back blows. Try ArcticSilver5 as thermal compound, and press the heat sink firmly until your confident that you have pushed it and it's seated. Remember the Appropriate amount of Paste also makes a hell of a difference.

Dosen't sound extreamly high.
My old 3000+ ran similar temps.

Follow kid's recomendations and you should be fine.

Just a thought, but do you have the fan speed turned up on your 9700?
Fan speed up vs down saves me ~4C with mine.

I have put artic silver 5 on it when I installed it, and I have 1 exhaust fan and 1 intake fan and the fans speed is at max 2500 for the zalman cooler.

Well then: Don't put a lot AS5 in Zalman HSF. Their quality finish limits the need of a large amount of paste. Use a very very thin layer. Do as kid said with the rest. Also don't be surprised. The 9700's all copper design decreases it's cooling ability in cpus that spread a low to mid amount of heat. Put it in quad core and see it at it's best.

Something looks way wrong. I have a 9500 on my FX60 OC'ed to 2900+ and my high temps usually around 50c. My first guess is that maybe you didn't get the 9700 seated down properly with the AS5 spread right. My second guess is that the case fans aren't adequately moving air through the case.

LOL ya I think thats the problem, because if I remember correctly I added some more AS5 and right after my temps went up, lol looks like I'll have to clean it and reapply a smaller amount. thanks for your help.

Wouldn't hurt to stick a higher CFM fan on the exhaust of the Super LanBoy. The stock one sure is silent but doesn't blow too much air. Or you could use a wire snipper/aluminum nibbler and cut the exhaust grill off, saved me a few degrees when I used that case back in my aluminum days :p

My 3700+ OC @ 2.8GHz idles in the low 30s, runs at 100% CPU usage in the mid 40s, peaks at mid 50s with primes95. This is with the Zalman 7700Cu.
