I already have a wireless network at home using a Linksys WRT54 to connect a laptop and a PC. Both are running Win XP.

I have a Brother MFC-3820cn printer that I want to be able to use on the network. I can not plug the printer into the router, as the router is in my living room. I don't want the printer plugged into the laptop or the pc.

I do have a 2nd Linksys WRt54g router that I am not using. Can I connect the printer to the 2nd router and use it like a print server? If so, how do I configure the 2nd router? How do I get the 2nd router on my network?

Thanks

Robin

It sound like what you are talking about is wireless bridging. If both routers support "WDS" then it could work. WDS will roughly 1/2 the speed of your wireless network. Both routers will need to have WDS turned on, see MFG site or manual for more specific details. I believe you will loose the WPA security feature, you are using WPA, right? This is a major minus of WDS.

I assume your printer is network ready, I'm not familiar with that model. The better option is run some cable from where you want to have the printer to your router. If you own your place you can put it in the walls, if you rent, then sometimes you may be able to tuck it under the baseboards.

Or if you're willing to take a performance hit on your wireless you could relocate the wireless router to the printer location. Range or Connectivity may prohibit this option, but this would shoot the WDS option pretty well too.
