AMD vs Intel 2007-2010 prediction

I wish K8L get here sooner so the prices will drop farther than those Q2 prices (i.e. C2D E6600 for $150!)

An E6600 for $150? Good grief. What would Baron Matrix say about that one?

I personally think that intel will have a healthy lead up till 2010. I really dont think that the K8L is going to beat out core 2 at all.

I usually enjoy reading the forums here and often just take in the knowledge of others who are more in the scene than I am. I even enjoy a good flame war between Baron Matrix and the Intel boys. But IMO we do not need ANOTHER thread for people to play Nostradumbass and guess what will happen next.

I mean what evidence do you have?

Here is my well informed prediction:

2007 - Fab32 gets crushed by a godzilla like monster - Intel panics and instead of rebuilding the fab for 32nm chips they switch to making beef jerky. AMD RULZ

2008 Aliens land and introduce a new fully optical chip and manufacturing process through a company called Snarklefrag. AMD and Intel market share drops to less than 5% combined. SNARKLEFRAG RULZ

2009 The second coming of Christ happens thereby shutting down the Snarklefrag fab in Israel. JESUS RULZ

2010 Jesus is seen eyeing a VIA based computer and all the sudden no one but Satan himself will buy Intel or AMD. VIA RULZ

H2 2010 - The world ends

Thanks Tool for vote of confidence. But I decided to take my whoopin' like a man and edit my post to a IMO, lest I offend by stating my opinion as fact.

I'm aware that this response is slightly off topic - but I'll write it anyway. It matches the topic line if not the discussion.

One reason we get long and somewhat repetitive threads like this is that there doesn't appear to be a website that organizes what is actually known about the upcoming PC roadmap. (at least that I know of - anybody know better?) It's actually quite hard to piece together a whole picture even 6 months out by searching the web. Tom's and other sites dutifully report the news, but just from reading today's version of Tom's, or Anandtech, or DailyTech one would have a very hard time even piecing together what is actually known about current developments, much less what those 'in the know' have educated guesses about. Even the games sites have 'future release' columns (proving that the fear of being wrong shouldn't stop anybody!)

When do we expect ATI's new chip? AMD's new CPU? When will Intel update the 975? When is DDR3 going to appear on MOBO's? WHen will MSrelease Vista SP1? Now, before I get flamed I know that many of these are not known, particularly Intel questions, but yet a lot is either known or can be approximated and it seems that someplace should organize it into a general picture. Is there such a place?

Im not an Intel fanboy, but the roadmap is probably more like

2007H1 Intel Rules/Conroe Kentsfield
2007H2 Intel Rules/Penryn
2008~~Intel Rules/Nehalem
2009~~Intel Rules/Gesher
2010?~ AMD (maybe) release K8L and R600....Lol....Meanwhile the new Nvidia 12 series chips have come out along with intels quantum processing technology

2090~~ Windows Vienna Released.

It was supposed to be a humourous and harmless jape at AMDs delays with Barcelona and R600. As well as MS and their 2years late OS.

But nvm. I guess some of you don't understand the Brit sense of humour, sarcasm and irony.

this prediction was not a prediction..... it was a hope that the crown is passed back and forth between INTEL and AMD

the only people who have a problem with predictions are

1. intel fans bois if the prediction doesnt make AMD look bad and INTEL look good

2 amd fan bois if the the prediction doesn't make INTEL look bad and AMD look good,

3. People who just like to flame ...

Brilliant! I used enlightenment for a few months. It's funny because after using it for a while, a friend showed me Mac OSX, and I thought Mac had copied a good thing.

going by the facts, im in doubt with AMD:

AMD 65nm speaks for its self - slower, no ground breaking thermal or performance changes, and delays etc

K8L - no benchmarks, and any changes will be copying and toward Conroe (shared L2, 4 ipc etc) - in the end the performance may be the same as a AMD Athlon 1400 vs Intel Pentium 3 1400 (tualatin), Intels P6 tech has always had an advantage in performance and power.

Marketing BS - there loosing and need something for people to hope for, hence all the marketing BS all over the place, hows a similar chip (spec wise, to conroe) supposed to beat a conroe like even K8 vs Netburst/P4 wasnt much of a gap (performance atleast)

2010:
intel does not produce an 80 core processor

2011: Amd opens its doors in Upstate New York, to a fully ramped fab

AMD can't rule in the world of making processors, as the Intel is concern they produce higher than AMD like Dual Core and other core that are really works and faster than AMD. For AMD, try to make it higher as possible
