Hi,

I have a domain controller (W2K) with active diretory and SP4 installed on
it. I would like to edit the domain controller security policies.

Recenly I installed microsoft exchange server 2003 on the same domain
controller. After doing so I am not able to get access to the domain
controller security policies and not even to the domain security policies.

While I try to open it, it says " Failed to open the group policy object.
You may not have appropriate rights." though I login as administrator
privilage.

I have navigated to the C:\Winnt\Sysvol\sysvol\<domain>\ however the
policies folder and other folders are MISSING.

No errors are being logged in the Event Viewer.

How can I resolve this issue.

I ran the gpotool from the windows 2000 resource kit and got the following
responses.

C:\Program Files\Resource Kit>gpotool /verbose
Domain: DGM-DOM
Validating DCs...
server1.DGM-DOM: down (sysvol only)
server2.DGM-DOM: down (sysvol only)
Error: DC list is empty

What does this information mean.
Need help on this urgently.

If there is no secound DC, you should try to restore the Policies
manually.

recreatedefpol.exe is the easiest way.

Hi,

If you are sure your policies are gone, then you can try to use dcgpofix to
restore to the original state.
