Hi there, I was reading some blogs yesterday and one made mention of the
Dell roadmap and the discontinuing of the Axim x30 series. With that in
mind, does anyone have an idea whether the new Magneto O/S coming this
summer (or whenever) will be able to be applied to one of these types of
Axims? I would hope so since the product only came out a year ago.

Hmm, if that is true, it's kinda disappointing since the hardware in the X30
series should be more than capable of running the new O/S -spcifically since
the processor runs faster than the x50 and the only exceptions that I notice
are more available ROM and VGA. How long has the x30 series been out btw?

I know this is a MS newsgroup on an MS news server but I'm going ot say this
anyway. It amazes me to no end that MS has such a fit when web sites post
reviews, screen shots, news leaks etc about upcoming products from MS. If
you follow the link above back to the source for Mobeil 2005 it is gone.
Now for an opinion. As far as the PPC goes I have really moved to using it
on all my trips instead of my laptop however it has some serious shortfalls
which unless 2005 tackles these issues there is little reason to upgrade:
1. Email signing and encrypting. If you used encrypted email in
Outlook and try to read those on the PPC your going to get a blank email
with a mime attactment. This is a real problem in our group as many of our
emails are encrypted between managment.
2. Active Sync of multiple Inbox folders with multiple rules for
each. Most of us use subfolders in Outlook anymore and in my case I really
need to see all the email in certain folders and only a very limited number
in other folders.
3. Not directly releated to MS: Faster CPU and More ram but keep
the cost down. Right now to get a fully loaded PPC your looking at a cost of
just under a cheap notebook. It quickly defeats the purpose to have a PPC
when it cost what a notebook cost.
4. Better integration into the entire MS product line of Office
applications, server apps, etc.
It also seems to me that not going to a standard platform the PPC OS is
going to be crippled in it's growth. Having each OEM "tweak" the ROM for
their PPC reminds me of the days long before we had the "standard" PC.
