1) If you have a router already, why use a PC to share the connection. Just connect the router to your Internet connection and share it that way.

2) Most consumer routers support a max of 253 IP addresses. To support more, the easiest thing to do would be to use a larger subnet, like 192.168.0.0/23 (255.255.254.0 subnet mask), which would support over 500 computers. To do that you'll need a higher end router like a Cisco PIX, SonicWALL, etc.

if there is more than 253 (1 and 0 used) pcs to connect, of cource u need more than one router

but where will u find a router that has 253 ports?????

if there is 253 computers connect to one router i think the router will be holy cow expensive and will not be able to keep up with the traffic on high useage

u will have to put together multiple routers

u know if there is 243 computers needing to connect, i suggest u hire a technition

Umm, switches? 8)

You don't necessarily need more than one router if you can use a netmask larger than /24 on the router. I just checked my Netgear router and it looks like it'll let you type in whatever netmask you want, so technically it should be able to do what you want. Although at that point, you should really be asking yourself if a single router is going to be able to handle the load of that many clients.
