Wow, these are some interesting results here, a 3 to 1 ratio for Nvidia to Ati. I was thinking there would be more 8500 and 9700 users out there too! Just to through in my results, i'm still using my good old Geforce2 Pro
Soon enough, Intel will make the i845s...imagine dual channel Sdram...*shudder*
8500LE 128 and I hate it. It only takes ATI about 2 years to fix there drivers and bioses so mines going in a shoebox till then lol. Can't run it hard for more than 2 hrs. before crash. Heat is no prob.

ATI does not update video BIOS's.
ATI has released a half a dozen new drivers this year for the Radeon series.
Are you overclocking the card?
Do you have the LE LE card 225/450?
Or do you have the LE card 250/500?
Is your card Built By ATI or is it Powered By ATI?
Have you uninstalled all ATI software and cleaned up your Windows Registry before reinstalling the drivers?
Have you had a Nvidia card in your system before without reinstalling Windows?
If you are using WinME you might as well...........
Used to have a Geforce2Mx200 but now I have an Asus Geforce4Ti4200.
I am more than pleased with it, it beat the crap out of the Mx card.
I´ve just reinstalled operating systems and started to install games etc so I
have not had the time to fully check it out yet (only played Mohaa and SOF2 for a
few minutes), but I will run it hard during this weekend.
The only thing that bothers me is that my temps has gone up from 41/29 to 45/31...not a big issue but it bothers me anyway I need a sig
Edited by jake75 on 10/23/02 03:29 AM.

I have BBA8500LE128 250/250 colored box straight from ATI warehouse in TO). OC or UC doesn't matter, it takes the same length of time to crash at 250/250 as at 295/295. O$=WinXPpro. I've been through it all three times, PSU (Enermax 431W), Mobo (asus A7S333), Mem(2x256 Samsung 333 cas 2.5). I know for sure it's the ram on my VC isn't capable of running hard for more than two hours. Who updates ATI bioses then? You're telling me my card was shipped with someonelses bios (who?) and that one I flashed to (retail 8500) was also someonelses. BTW it worked far worse with 7008 retail than with March 7006 LE. I have many pages on how to uninstall/reinstall ATI drivers correctly. I used to clean install OS evertime (upto 9 now) same thing everytime. Yes I've tried cheap nVidia card worked great. Still same prob with ATI on clean install. I've been diligently persueing this for 2 months and nothing. As long as I don't play a game she'll run for weeks, plop in a game (MOHAA, 3DMark2k1se build 330) you got around 2 hours, before video lock (sound continues). BTW heat is not a problem. Want a new BBA8500LE128 for cheap?? I bought this machine as a gamer and the games I'm playing are not fun. Thanx for your concern but I give.

Enough already guys I have the solution get rid of the loosy ATI products. Of course I disabled fast writes, that was the first thing I did before I bought the card. Sorry for sounding angry but I am. Want a new BBA8500LE128 or what?

Lmfao, it surfs the net fine which IMHO is worth more than $20. Thinking of putting it in my P! 166MMX, about the only place it deserves. Might even get a performance boost lol.

Well it sounds like you have done everything you can to try to remedy the problem.
Maybe you have a bad card.
I know how you feel.
I had a 32MB Rage 128 PRO that was bad out of the box. It failed ATI's own memory read/write utility that came bundled with the ATI driver.
I mailed the card back to ATI without a RMA or a receipt only a letter explaining that it failed the memory read/write test. ATI called me and asked what they wanted me to do. I said that I had bought a new Radeon DDR card and that I sent the old one back because it didn't work. I even said that I didn't want that fixed or a replacement. Three days later Purolator Courier delivered a brand new card. That card works fine and its in my friend's computer now.
ATI's warranties are very good. If you send it back to them chances are they will replace it with a brand new card.
I just can't do it right now as then I don't have a computer to do the things I need to do. It does those things fine just not anything too difficult. I will be sending he card though. Thanx PSYKO

ATI provides an advance RMA service to reduce downtime! You just give them a security deposit (around $200), they'll mail you the new card, you return the old card, and they'll return the $200 back to you. I've done this a couple of times.
