Question about E6600 installation

Ok, I have no issue about seating the CPU, what confusing me is the (retail) heatsink. Rather than have a square if thermal compound on it, it has three neat strips of thermal compound. Which surely means there will be areas where the metal of the CPU touches the metal of the heatsink with no thermal compound. Comments?

Nothing to worry. It will probably spread when it breaks in. You can scrap it off and use something like AS5 helps a bit.

Dude you will be fine. I just installed a E6600 last Friday and overclocked it to a 3.1 today with no problems. The processor you got is the bomb and the way that it is laid out will be fine.
