8 pin pci-x power

whats new with these 8 pin pci-x power. i think its extra two wires to carry more amps. just my thoughts.

I'm curious, are these pin compatible with the 12v EPS connector? Video card power needs are getting insane, hopefully they'll take the route Intel and AMD took and work on effiency.
