Hi,

I am trying to fix my friends computer. It recently just stopped responding. And when we listened carefully we could here a high pitched squelling. Presuming it is now gumpf we replaced it. However the new power supply does not seem to work. The old one was a MEsh hpc-420-302 df link: http://highpowersupply.com/hpc420302df.html And we have tryied to replace it with a thermaltake tr2 470w psu.

The new power supply definitly works as i have tried it in mums computer, and also my mums power supply works in the problem computer.

Ne ideas why the thermaltake tr2 wont work in the problem machine?

Cheers

Mark

Based on the info at hand, the new TT unit lacks the -5v line completely and the old one has it. It could be the mobo is older and needs it. If your mum's psu also has the -5v then that would explain it, and her mobo does not need it hence the TT 470w works w/o issue in her setup.
