hi this is the system i am looking at buying...

-EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
-Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
-Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
-2 BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB GDDR3 (sli)
-Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 250GB ST3250620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache
will get another hard disk later and run them in raid 0
-Thermaltake VA8003BWS Armour Super Tower

still not sure of the PSU to buy, il be ocing a bit so i need some more power for that

will this do ? Tagan TG800-U25 800W ATX2.0 Dual Engine Silent SLi Compliant Silent PSU. wasnt too sure about it since it never shows up in any psu forums so im guessing its not that good, dunno really hehe, but it seemed well worth it looking at the price.

well if u have any suggestions id be glad. i use oc so cant get any silverstone or pc power & cooling products...

thanks

Would be a great PSU. Tagan is one of the highest quality brands you can buy. If it is too expensive you can go with PC Power & Cooling, OCZ, SeaSonic or Silverstone.

hehe thanks, im a psu noob and aparently the amps are really important.
does the amp amount on the tagan compare to the pc power & cooling 750 psu? it the tagan as stable and solid as the pc power and cooling 750?? it seems too cheap to me

**EDIT** forget the cheap part hehe, was looking at the wrong one!

That PSU would be fine but if i were you i would look at getting an 8800GTX instead of 2 x 8800GTS.

I was gonna say the same thing, 1 GTX will outperform 2 GTS's and is cheaper me thinks.

I wouldn't say outperform as in games that are optimised for SLI the GTS' will win, any other situation the 8800GTX is better choice imo.

ande why is that? 2 gts are way better than one gtx no? i cant afford 2 gtx....

2 GTS' aren't way better than 1 GTX, in OPTIMISED (pay lots of attention to that word, not all games are optimised for SLI) games the GTS' will win by around 20-30% but in all other situations they will lose/draw with the GTX.

SLI is only really necessary at resolutions beyond 1600x1200 aswell. So unless you're running some mega high resolution like 2000xwhatever then no point in SLI.

going with the EVGA GeForce 8800 GTX KO (630MHz Core, 768MB 2000MHz GDDR3 Memory)

seems to be the best one and price is reasonable at 470 sterling inc vat

thanks again for the info guys

will the OCZ GameXStream 700w be good even for a bit of overclocking? somehow i feel safer with an ocz rather than tagan, and since im going with 1 gpu it should be good right

The OCZ will be great too. I own the GameXstream 700 and it is a great PSU. Very quiet and looks nice with the subtle blue glow from inside the black housing. Thermally controlled fan and in my cool dorm room it sometimes doesn't spin at all.

For future reference you can see this PSU ranking guide.

That PSU will be fine even for major overclocking!

Tagan should be just fine, you can also look at the PC Power & Cooling 750w Quad looks pretty nice too. I will be purchasing that one myself soon. I am running alot of stuff of a 550w SeaSonic that has done well but will need the extra power when I add the other 8800gts.

The thing is, what's lost in all this, is that SLI'ing 8800 Cards at this time is utterly pointless and a complete waste of money, a decent C2D setup with 2GIG of RAM and a 8800GTX will slaughter any game out there at max resolutions.

If your gonna SLI these beasts at least wait until it's necessary and they are half the price.

just to finalise becuase this is getting confusing with the differences made to my build hehe :)

-EVGA nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
-Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)
-Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler
-BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
-Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
-Western Digital Raptor 74GB WD740ADFD 10,000RPM SATA 16MB Cache
will get another hard disk later and run them in raid 0
-Thermaltake VA8003BWS Armour Super Tower

so the OCZ GameXStream 700w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply be enough?

**actually im going with the ocz 850 gamextreme**

how far do you plan to OC? DDR2-667 will get an e6600 to 3.0ghz without being overclocked. Furthermore "Dominator" RAM isn't really worth it- it's just a marketing gimmick. You would not notice a performance difference with the two different speeds of RAM, however, you might notice the £60 difference to your wallet.

But then again, if you think that £400 for a graphics card is "reasonable", I'm guessing that money isn't really an object here.

Make sure that you get the Dominator 6400 C3 memory as these use Micron D9 chips. The C4 uses a different chip and have slightly less overclockability. That is, if you want to stay with the dominator memory...
