I'm running an E6300 on an EVGA 680i with the Thermaltake Big Typhoon cooler. I've got an XFX 7950GT Passively Cooled. Its all in an Antrec 900 case with an Antec True Power Trio 550 watt. When the memory is put into the board and the bios is set to memory timings optimal it sets the timings to 5-5-5-18. The memory's stated timings are 4-4-4-12. The voltage is set to auto and runs at 1.85. if I try to set them to 4-4-4-12 the system won't boot gives me a Windows installation is corrupt. The corrupt file is sytem32/config. Any ideas? Is it bad memory or packaged wrong?

EDIT: It's two one gig sticks

It sounds like it read the timings off the SPD ( and left the voltage at the default ~1.8V ). I thought this RAM had EPP, though, and the 680i (being a recent nVidia chipset) should have been able to read off the better timings and voltage automatically. Hmm.

This is a well-documented problem and I had the same problem with my exact same memory going on the evga 680i. You just have to manually set the voltage and the timings. I didn't do that yet, as my newly-built system is running fine, but I probably will when I get the courage. Right now, I can run all games on the highest settings without a hiccup and without overclocking. I'll overclock when I need to, I guess.
