Hi I am new hear guys I need some help on finding the right CPU Cooler the last two I got won't work on the CPU I have every time I play a game or make a render on a 3D program the CPU keeps over heating and then the computer freezes.

I had to put a box fan over my tower to keep the CPU cool.

Which cooler is it best for me?

Type of CPU I have is AMD Athlon 64 FX-57 socket 939

Motherboard Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe.

If you want to stay cheap get an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro, if you dont mind spend a little more cash get a Tuniq Tower 120, its pretty much the best air coolers on the market today. Dont forget the thermal paste either, get either AS5 or Shin-Etsu X23.

Also be sure that the plastic heat sink bracket around the CPU socket isn't interfering with the heat sink seating fully on the CPU!

I had this happen with my Zalman 7000Cu. Ended up having to modify the heatsink bracket so the Zalman would seat fully onto the processor.

Edit: It was sneaky about it too...let the cooler get juuuust close enough where it felt and looked seated enough that it fooled me on the first inspection. In truth though it was about a hundredth of an inch off and felt rather loose after I kept getting lockups and crashes.

Chances are your heatsink isn't mounted properly. FX-57 is a single core CPU that doesn't run too hot, do you have a stock AMD heatsink? It should do the job just fine if you aren't overclocking and don't live in the lower levels of Hell
