I've had HD through my St. Petersburg, FL cable co. (Bright House) for about
6 weeks and have been extremely happy with it until the past week or so. It
seems like my HD reception has gone from "breathtakingly amazing" to merely
"excellent". It seems like it lacks some of the sharpness that it had.
This corresponds with a period of off and on cable outages. Also, the clock
on my box has been running steadily slower. I can reboot and it corrects,
but it gets slow again. Also, my cable internet connection, during the same
time period, has been noticeably slower. None of these things had happened
prior to the last week or so - everything had been perfect.
I have a service guy coming tomorrow afternoon, but was wondering if any of
you have experienced anything similar. Was it some sort of temporary general
thing the cable co. was experiencing or did it turn out to be internal to
you specifically? Thanks.

When I "forget" what HDTV looks like, I always tune in to a standard like
Discovery HD Theater. That's the channel that always features breathtaking,
sharp, "live"-looking nature and travel programs filmed with high definition
equipment. Some of the other channels featured in our cable system's
(TimeWarner) Hi-Def tier are less than impressive, notably TNT, and some
older programs on the PBS HD channel.
The shows that are always impressively sharp and clear for me are:
Discovery HD Theater (almost anything)
Tonight Show With Jay Leno
Network drama programs that were originally filmed and then transferred to
HDTV are just not as impressive. So if you believe that even the HDTV
standards like Discovery HD Theater don't appear as they used to 6 weeks
ago, then maybe you do have some real problem.

The cable woman came by today and it turned out that the problem was outside
at the cable pedestal. The recent storms we've had had loosened something,
or something like that. The problem is fixed now.
Yes, I know what you mean about some HD being better than others, and I had
been looking at the best channels for my comparision: INHD, HDNET, and
DiscoveryHD. They are all better now that she fixed that. The one major
network we don't get here in HD over cable is NBC. Now that you mention Jay
Leno, I'm real anxious to get my HD antenna I ordered so I can get NBCHD
over the air.
