Before I buy, would this rig work?

Hi there  , here's the specs.

GPU
ASUS GEFORCE 8800GTS 640MB HDTV DVI-I HDCP PCI-E
CPU
INTEL CORE 2 EXTREME QX6700 2.66GHZ 8MB 1066MHZ S-775
Mobo
ASUS STRIKER EXTREME NF680I SLI SKT-775 ATX
RAM
CORSAIR 2GB DDR2 PC5400 XMS2 XTREME (2X1GB) HEATZINK
Network card
LINKSYS EG1032 INSTANT GIGABIT PCI (32-BIT)
Soundcard
CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER X-FI FATAL1TY FPS
Wireless Card
NETGEAR WG311T 802.11B/G 11/54/108 MBPS WLAN PCI
Primary drive
WESTERN DIGITAL RAPTOR X GAMER 150GB 10000RPM SATA/150 CLEAR COVER
Secondary drive (file storage...)
SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.10 750GB 7200RPM SATA/300
PSU
ENERMAX GALAXY 1000W SLI/CROSSFIRE PSU 220V

Finally I'll get some nice case, and a CD/DVD drive from my old comp.

1. Well, it'd start up? No compability issues?
2. Is there any upcomming release of a componen, like a new, better, CPU or GPU? Because if there is, I could use my old gfx card untill that date.
3. Comments?

Thanks!

More about before work
  1. i would get rid of the asus striker extreme, and get the evga 680i mobo. use the money saved to get a gtx
  2. Looks good to me. Id grab a cheaper 680i MOBO, and spend the 150 bucks i save on some faster RAM.....
    P5N32-E
    Corsair
Thats what im running with very similar parts as yours....cept the GTX. I love it.

    GTX > GTS? I looked at some stats;
    http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2917&p=18

The GTS seems to perform better than the GTX, though I'm no pro at this.
I'd be using Vista, since my plan is to get a nice rig now, and have it for a long time ahead.
  4. nononono....the GTX is considerably quicker, but at a price.
    8800GTX Review
  5. here a link to the vga charts link
    the gtx is better
  6. Would...
BFG NFORCE 680I SLI MOTHERBOARD SKT-775 ATX
Be better? Closest I could find.

Also, I couldn't find the memory at the stores I'm using. I'd rather use slower mem than have to pay Shipping and Tax (Still have nightmares..).

I could skip the memory for now, I do have 2x512mb that I could use, then I could look around for really goood memory.
  7. what stores are you using?
  8. Swedish ones. And unfort. they don't come with english translations :7.
  9. ok, that makes sense now. yea that board should be fine. here in the US the striker is ~$420 USD vs. the evga 680i ~$250 USD. i dont know what that converts to you, but you get the idea. performance wise the striker extreme just isnt worth almost double the price here at least
  10. ASUS STRIKER EXTREME NF680I SLI SKT-775 ATX
    2.960 SEK ~ 405 dollars
BFG NFORCE 680I SLI MOTHERBOARD SKT-775 ATX
    2.895 SEK ~ 396 dollars

So... the extreme is better? Then I'll just stick with my Striker Extreme :).

If you going to be using Vista, you really want 2 gigs. You will notice sluggishness with only 1 gig.

Is there a reason u want the 680i over say....a intel chipset? Are you going SLI?
dont get me wrong, its a great chipset, but it is pricey..

Hmm, It's going to be my computer for a very long time to come, so I'd rather buy a better mobo than I need, so I can upgrade it later.

Yeah, true. Though I'll only use it temporarly untill either I find some cheap, good memory or some better comes in stock. I'd rather not import stuff since Tax/Shipping.

Give me a min, I'll soon post specs again.

    Good call.
Throw another 8800GTX in there for Crysis.
    **off topic**
Check out the new trailer real quick:
    Crysis

(not attempting to hijack, just alittle excited)
  16. Here we go then;

    GPU
    BFG GEFORCE 8800GTX 768MB OC HDTV DVI-I HDCP PCI-E
    CPU
    INTEL CORE 2 EXTREME QX6700 2.66GHZ 8MB 1066MHZ S-775
    Mobo
ASUS STRIKER EXTREME NF680I SLI SKT-775 ATX
    Ethernet
LINKSYS EG1032 INSTANT GIGABIT PCI (32-BIT)
    Soundcard
CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER X-FI FATAL1TY FPS
    Wlan
    NETGEAR WG311T 802.11B/G 11/54/108 MBPS WLAN PCI
    Primary HDD
WESTERN DIGITAL RAPTOR X GAMER 150GB 10000RPM SATA/150 CLEAR COVER
    Secondary HDD (Storage)
    SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.10 750GB 7200RPM SATA/300
    PSU
COOLER MASTER REAL POWER PRO 850W

Now, will this components be compatible with eachother? Will they be able to run Vista? Will they be able to run DX10 gfx?
Please note that I'v changed the PSU from 1k to 850w (saved a big amount of money there!).
Finally I'll use some of the Ram I already have, untill they get better stuff in stock (according to emails; very soon). Then I'll use a standard CD/DVD reader/writer that I already got.

Then I'll plug it into a nice case and get some neon lights :).

Comments :)? Thanks for all the help BTW!
  17. Thats a REALLY nice setup. But....i dont see any RAM........
Edit: Woops.....didnt read your whole post. System looks great!!
Make sure u get a case with plenty of airflow, and room for that big-ol' 8800GTX.
  18. Um.. yeah.. I'll get the Ram later, when they get it in stock. I'm looking for the one you guys recomended. It seems to be good enough.
  19. Uh, f***! I just found a similar GPU, but a lot cheaper. Though it's a bit slower:

    BFG GEFORCE 8800GTX 768MB OC HDTV DVI-I HDCP PCI-E
    BFG GeForce 8800GTX 768MB DDR3 HDTV-out DUAL DVI SLI-ready RETAIL PCI Express

The one at the top is the current. Again, I'm no pro at comparing theese, though I find 25 Mhz lower on the cheaper card.

Whats the diff? How many FPS lower would I get?
  20. your dropping fromn 600mhz to 575mhz(stock). It'll only be a few FPS difference, maybe 5fps at the most. U can always install NTune and bump the core clock of the cheaper model up to 600mhz. butttt. you void the warrenty.

Thanks! I'd rather do that to save 100 dollars :) (!!!)
  22. Good call! That can be your extra RAM money!! 8)
  23. Hi again!

You guys talked about airflow, does my chosen case provides enough?

ADDED: Far as I can tell theres space for 2 fans + the PSU fan.

Or do you have any suggestions :).

BTW, big thanks for the help so far!
