Well. BOM has really gone and done the proverbial asinine induced action of closing down a part of history for Tom's Hardware.

First they killed off Tom's Hardware [non forum]. Now they killing off the other, where some of the oldest and longest lasting members reside.

And let's get this right, we muck about here and nowhere else with regards to off the wall discussions. If anything, it's the human races' inability to heed warnings that expose them to us. So we are made to pay, because people whom shouldn't even be allowed to switch on a computer are offended when they can't read? Nice indeed - BOM is catering for the stupidity of modern times and aiding in the further sinking thereof.

I would've liked to be a fly on the wall in the meeting where this decision was made seeing that logic wasn't involved here.

To all the regulars, you can PM me for a e-mail address for future comms. One week after the Other is closed, I'll kindly request my profile to be removed.

This place can delve into the lower ebbs of stupidity by itself (unless the communist rulers of BOM ban me before such time).

No, when it happens it happens. I'll want to see all of it gone. I might hang onto the account for the Linux section so ideally would want to see the other go along with the content, my post count remain (hey, yeah I'm vein enough to care and it does make the odd n00b STFU), and for people to wonder just where the hell I did make 9k post on this place.

I know there are a few people round here that host so if anybody is interested in hosting old Mrs P for the perversion of future generations now would be a good time to speak up.

This has definitely kept toms different from other tech sites and a welcome relief especially since toms attracts alot of newbies.

The reasons given for the closure of this section are correct. It's something that should have been done a long time ago; from about the time Wingding and his followers appeared.

Well I will not be visiting the site as often. Probably just skim over reviews of new hardware.
I lurk around a few of the forums but don't post in them very often.
I see the same questions posted today as I did ten years ago. And everyone of them can be answered by a boolean search.

I fully agree that you are merely a cog in the mass 2 gear gearbox that is BoM. However, the Others had its fair share of letting noobz go down in flames, but it has always had a social element to it between a select few members - off the wall yes but something that did have a niche feel to it. So, the fact that something wasn't thought around it and that money and "more hits" the basis of the decision just point to the obvious.

More people/hits BoM will attract, but I can assure you it will become one of those "international" sites that has no substance. Like a cola drink in a gay bar. It just doesn't measure up.

I'll miss to Others to an extent and only that - but let's be brutally honest here: everyone in the Others has seen this coming and has witnesses the slow demise of what was once a superb, no BS site. Taking the BS element out and making it friendly has made it below avg.

As for someone creating a new Other's elsewhere - go for it.
