just a little quip.
i just bought a japanese dvd,,,and it has, by far, the best images
i've yet to see on a dvd. most dvd's i've seen so far are great when
there are closeups involved,,,but they interpret distance poorly. the
tendency i've seen is that there tends to be light halos around
distant shapes that are supposed to be blurry.
this japanese movie is just about perfect, with extremely clean edges.
i like dvd's more than hd, in general, because the images are closer
to what i see in a movie theater. hd is more like,,,,,,,IMAX.

Read up on compression artifacts and edge enhancement. I consider it an
encoding error. Gets to be very distracting on large screens.
Some releases are better than others, you might want to try Superbit discs.

the dvd is from a series of six movies that just came out called "lone
wolf and cub". it is a very violent samurai flick. the specific dvd i
bought was "baby cart at the river styx"
