Re-installed windows about a month ago, and since then I find that when I try to watch some movies (mainly wmp files online) such as a movie trailer on IMDB.com or some clips on one of those time-waster sites that it is all rainbow colored. I've got the latest drivers for the card installed, as well as the latest DivX codecs, but these don't help the problem.

My friend said it might be something I'd have to tweak in the ATI control panel, but I installed only the driver without the control center. And to get the control center I'd have to uninstall this driver and re-install the driver/control center package, something I don't really want to do unless I know for sure I could fix it that way.

Has anyone heard of this type of issue, and maybe could inform me on how to fix it?

Possibly something on those sites. My 1600 runs movies fine, and all the trailers on apple.com in Quicktime. Never had a problem. It only takes 5 minutes. Just download the ATI tool and uninstall the old drivers. Then reinstall the whole package. If you can play regular DVD's and movies or trailers from real sites, you are better off wasting your time in other ways.

I can with some and others I can't. Some movies I have on my HD (mpeg/wmv) play in technicolor, whilst others don't.

I'm wondering if it could possibly be a needed xViD codec, but the way I have my computer setup now I am downloading absolutely nothing from the internet unless it's 100% safe and verified, which all those third party xvid codecs are not.

Anyone else have any ideas on how to correct this?

that happens when you have too many codecs instazlled, specially if you install too many "codec packs"
stick with one.. (Ie. divx will decode xvid too )

also could be that the codec is old or doesnt support fully the video file.
try getting the newest :D

Perhaps someone here knows of a forum or place where one could obtain actual knowledgeable answers and not just reiterated common sense idiot answers. I mean seriously, that's GREAT that your x1600 plays fine and mine 'shouldn't have a problem'... BUT IT DOES. So why on earth make such an irrelevant post?

And honestly, do you think I would somehow be running older drivers or a slew of codecs after stating I am on a fresh install and downloading nothing that isn't absolutely essential?

I would LOVE to find a forum where people actually posted something helpful, and not just a bunch of idiots who speculate what they think, and not what they know.

Unbelievable
