When I click on Add Network Places and try to add a share folder from my ME computer (on my ME computer) I get the error message "The network place could not be added because the following error has occurred: The network cannot be found."
However, I can create network places (on my ME computer) of shared folders from my XP computer that is on my network and access them just fine.
Both computer names show up on my ME box in the workgroup and on the ME box I can access all shared folders under "Entire Network" within the "My Network Places" folder.
Also, on my XP box when trying to add a network place ME shared folder I get "\\Dimitris (Dimitris is my ME Computer name) is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have permissions. HELP!!!!

Are you running a software firewall? If you are, disable it for a second, and see if it works.
