Need help to buy a large TV
******************************

My friend is looking to buy a 42 to 60 inch TV

She does not want to pay over $1,000.

What Tv should she buy ?
What the latest technologies in TVs ? Plasma ? LCD ? H-Def Tv ?

What are the negatives/positives of each technology.

Also considering she is a budget minded person what are the best
places/sites to but such TVs ?

Is it Ok to but from an out of town site and have it shipped ?

She lives in the Bay Area, CA. Any suggestions locally that offer good
deals ?

Any recommendations/pointers ?

Thanks in advance
Anna

Anna:

I'm going to be nice and say that I think you mean HDTV (HiDef
Television)??

For $1000 you are close to getting an OK 30" (16:9 CRT) tube HDTV
set

however you may not be happy with it due to Analog (regular TV)

picture quality.... or the Lack of 'NO' HDTV tuner....

The HDTV product lines are improving right now as prices for the

2005 models are just beginning to appear... HD TV sets are adding

features as the prices drop.....

Many of your questions have been answered on this 'fine' News
Group...

I'd suggest that you read the Posts here to get up to HDTV speed...

It may take a month or so of reading/lurking... But this will
give

you a broad base of TV info to make a wiser HDTV selection.....

As a mentioned earlier.... $1500 will buy a better HD set than
$1000

at this time...

Conns has a 40" Zenith for $899. Walmart has the RCA 40" D40W20 for
$1186. Circuit City has the Akia PT4298HD 42" set for $999. All of
these are Rear-projection HDTVs. All of these are about the same in
terms of quality.

If you're letting price drive your decision, look at those. Tell your
friend that for around $1000 he/she will be buying a budget-end
product and to expect possible problems. Tell them to research burn-in
problems and educate themselfs on how to avoid burn-in.

In terms of technology, CRT Rear-projection is still the best bet for
affordability and quality, getting the right make and model is the
trick. Your friend should really consider expect to pay about
$1600-$2000 for what they are looking for if they go with a quality
brand. Toshiba, Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Sony, all offer a better product
for the money than the lower-end brands I mentioned above. Those
brands will cost more, but it's worth it. Think of like buying a
Daewoo instead of a Toyota. The lower end brands are more prone to
problems and the picture quality isn't as nice.

LCD/Plasma/LCoS/DLP forgert about these, these sets start around
$3000.

I have had the Dish Network 34" HDTV system for a few months now and the
picture quality is amazing. TV is an RCA Flat Screen. $999.00 gets you the
TV, HDTV receiver and professional setup and installation. It is worth
looking into
