I recently got my new parts (upgrading)... An Opteron 170, an ENERMAX Liberty 550W and a X1950XT 256MB

So yeah I would have picked a cheaper CPU or a single core one, but I heard that the Opteron 170 was a great overclocker and such, and now my only concern is the motherboard, I have read that it isn't a good overclocker but I am not sure. In the past I tried OC'ing my 3700 but if I would just raise the FSB and nothing else... I was a newb. So at 230 it wouldn't post. My goal is trying to get this Opteron to 2.70-2.75 (have aftermarket cooler for the CPU) and I was wondering if anyone of you guys have this same board and can tell me how is it at OC'ing.

Thanks!

I used that board on my last build with a 3500+ Clawhammer. I know I was able to reach 2.6ghz with the FSB at 237, and it ran stable. Needed a little extra voltage, but not much. I never tested the limits of that board so I couldn't tell you much beyond that.

Here's a good guide for overclocking an A64 (which will work fine for an Opty too.)

Will help you find the limits to that board, and then set accordingly.
