First time Building (need your input, on most things!)

Alright, I need as much input from avid gamers or pc builder to guide me here.
Right now I have a athlon 1800+, with ati 8500le, with 512mb of pc2100, and I USE to play games, emphasis on USE, cuz now well it don't cut it anymore..
I am on a budget about 1500$ (canadian dollars) I'm planning on keeping some of my parts ( ex: dvd writer, monitor, speakers, keyboard)
I want something that will be upgradeable but still be able to play games at high fps.
So:
cpu: intel e6400 core 2 duo (good as it is, but can be overclocked) :270$
videocard: according to toms hardware, ati x1950xt is the way to go now 340$
mobo: msi p965 platinum ( but need your opinion here) : 170$
ram: 1 gig of ddr2 800mhz (no name or brand???) :130$
Case: any suggestion for this setup welcome (not to expensive)
hardrive: at least 150mb but want sata-300
So what do you think, considering 2007 will be the year with vista, directx10, etc...

IMO, a gaming rig over $1000 should have 2gigs of ram so that any game including the latest plays well on it.
