I now have a LCD hdtv. But what do I need to do to get the hd on to the
set? our local stations are now broardcasting in hd, and guess there is
some shows also sent in hd.
They say you can get it with out cable?? What do I need?
And if I go to cable what set up do I need? Would I have to go to the
expensive digital cable package?

Thank you all for the help.

First, do you have an LCD flat panel or and LCD rear projection? Which
model? Some models have an HD tuner built in...

Where do you live? Who is your cable company?

First item on the WEB, go to http://www.antennaweb.org

Enter your ZIP Code... This will tell you which of your

local TV stations are in Digital + their antenna direction from

your home.. They may be Std Def digital OR HiDef digital...

NOTE: Channels 2 thru 13 are VHF.. Channels 14-59 are UHF...

Assuming your LCD HDTV does not have a Digital tuner.. Buy a
Samsung

T-351 from Sears ($350)... THen U need an Antenna... Most
Digital

TV Stations are UHF.. Up to 45 miles they require a small Yagi or

4 bay bow tie $25 antenna (Like channel Master 3021) ( No Terks..)

IF your Digital TV stations include VHF channels 2-13.. Buy a
Combo

VHF/UHF Antenna. RG-6 antenna cable, component video cable, &
sound

cable = done.....

IF your local Cable company caries HD Cable Channels... and most
do...

Buy only the Analog 4:3 programming AND the 16:9 HiDef TV
packages...

The expensive digital cable 4:3 package is of 'no' real value...

THis may be the easier thing to do IF there are 7 or more HD Cable

channels... Typical cost is $7/mo for Cable Box HD tuner and

another $7/mo for the HD program channels...

NOTE: An OTA (Over the Air) antenna digital HD Tuner is DIFFERENT

from a cable box HD tuner. These are both named set top
boxes.

If you already have cable, probably easiest to upgrade to their HD
package for HD premium channles and HD locals. Check with your cable
company. All you'll need is a new HD cable box from the cable company.
Regualr digital cable is almost always a requirement for the HD
packages.

In general, you have 3 choices:

OTA for locals, requires either a built-in HD tuner or external tuner/antenna

Cable, with box supplied by cable company for both prem and locals

Sat, for premium channels, still uses antenna for locals, with STB/receiver.

If you have cable now, I'd go to the cable company website and start there.
