Is there a limit to how hight an ability can go, and how much of its
modifier applies? I know one time I had so many STR modifiers on me that
my STR stopped going up past 34 or so.

Also, for DEX is there a limit to how much the bonus can apply to AC, or
to attack?

+12 is the limit to magical enhancements to abilities.

The AC bonus from DEX is limited by the type of armor you are wearing.
E.g. no armor - no limit; padded armor - limit of +8, full plate - limit
of +1. This is listed in the armor description as Max Dexterity Bonus.
This *only* affects AC received from DEX, nothing else. All DEX-based
skills (with the exception of Open Lock) are affected by armor (and
shield); this is listed as an Armor Check Penalty. Nothing else
Dexterity-related is affected by armor or shields. Your Reflex throws,
attack bonuses, etc. receive the full DEX bonus regardless of the type
of armor you are wearing.

Thanks. Basically I didn't know about the +12 limit, but that's only for
item enhancements. Good to know there's no other limits (aside from
armor, of course).

Remember that HOTU actually enforces the stacking limits. You
should only be able to have a single item that modifies a given stat.
This seems to work for HOTU items but it does not work for items from
the OC. Thus a HOTU bonus item stacks with a OC bonus item. I was
able to get my int up to 36.

As for Dex, there's no inherent limit. However, armor will
limit it. If you have a dex in the 30's you don't want armor.

Item and spell enhancements. If you are wearing a Belt of Agility +10,
casting Cat's Grace on yourself (spell, scroll or potion) will get you
only an additional +2.

It shouldn't get you anything. They are both enchantment
boosts.

The other thing I didn't realize was that the Max Dex. Bonus only
applied to AC, and nothing else. I noticed this yesterday when my attack
roll stayed the same, despite the armor I equipped and unequipped, so I
figured something was different about that...
