I have a problem displaying the 'í' character in
any text editor under xp.

The keyboard and the regional settings are correct at English(Irish).

In order to get the acute accent on vowels I use the key combination of

Alt Gr + Vowel, eg a,e,i,o,u, to display á,é,í,ó,ú.
They all work with the exception of the í.

The ALT+0237 keystroke combination works but I would rather use the
ALTGR system.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

How odd. It works on the first text editor I tried, using a English (UK)
keyboard. Could this possibly be a Code Page problem? I don't know, but it's
worth asking. I have to say that with an American keyboard (using windows'
American keyboard driver, which Microsoft with ineffable arrogance call
English) the ALT GR vowel combination _doesn't_ work.

Quite. Actually what I'd _like_ to be able to do is to redefine the ALT-GR a
key combination to à, which I use far more often than á, living in France.

Viszontlátásrá.
