This is not my 1st build by any means, but it is the 1st time I am buying components specifically to try to OC. I don't game too much...for example I am playing UT2004 on a AGP raedon 128 9600 so I am not a freak about frame rates. Here is was I was thinking of getting, trying to keep costs under $900

CPU - C2D 6300 (would a 6400 make any real difference)
MB - Asus P5B Deluxe
Ram - OCZ PC2-6400 Platinum XTC (2x1gb)
Video - eVGA Ge Force 7600GT (will probably buy used on ebay)
Cooling - Good Scyth or Zalman cooler...any recomendation?

Currently have:

HD - WD320GB SATA 3.0, 16mb cache
Case - Antec Sontata w/380W TruePower PSU
Sony DVD/RW

Basically want to know if my Mobo or ram is overkill for that CPU and if it makes any real difference between 6300/6400 if going to OC. Thanks in advance, love all the advice from this forum!

Your psu is plenty for 7600gt & overclocking.

Let me put it this way. 6300 has a multiplier of 7 (7x266=1.8ghz stock) whereas 6400 has an 8 (8x266=2.1ghz stock) . Suppose you could reach the highest 500mhz fsb with P5B DX. Theoretically, you could o/c to:

7 x 500 = 3.5ghz
8 x 500 = 4.0ghz

Yep, that's a 500mhz difference. How much 500mhz worth is up to you.

Overall, the specs are very nice for o/cing. With a good hsf, you can o/c to around 450mhz.

How about Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro. DON'T get it from newegg. They're ripping people off. MSRP is $34 usd.
